Internships

Students that study IB or IM/IBE in the old (=pre BA/MA) curriculum are given the opportunity to do internship in a company organization that is based abroad (so not in the Netherlands). An internship in general can result in at most 18 (old) study points. This means 1 (old) study point for every week that an internship lasts, till a maximum of 18 old study-point. Furthermore, it is possible for IB/IM/IBE students to requests a transfer of 2 faculty electives into 9 old study points to be obtained for a small internship that should last at least 9 weeks. If the topic of the internship is on the field of Organization and Strategy (e.g. HRM, organizational structure, business process redesign, strategy and so forth), you should contact me (Dr. Ir. Peter Bollen, internship coordinator). I will then assign you to an internship supervisor, when I have approved the following documents:

  1. A tangible description of an internship project for a company and organization signed by that organization
  2. A list of elective courses plus results.

I need these documents in order to maximize the success for the internship. Remember if an organization/company can not specify (in many cases in cooperation with the student) a project proposal in advance, there is a high probability that they will not be able to do it when you have arrived at the company. In the latter case, the probability of internship failure are high. The list of marks , I need in order to assess the qualifications that you posses, related to the topic of the internship. For example if a company project, requires you to create a HRM strategy plan, I will check whether you have done one or more elective courses on this topic.

Students can acquire an internship project, in a number of ways. They can check the available internships, at the international internship office (you can arrange an appointment with Nicole Weerts on Thursdays between 10.00 and 12.00 hours through the service desk. Another way of acquiring an internship is by acquiring it yourself. For example, via internet or by directly addressing the company of your choice. For students in the new BA/MA system, doing an internship as sketched here is no longer possible.

If you have any questions regarding an internship for Organization & Strategy, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Peter Bollen on Mondays and Fridays 10.35-10.55.
