The city and the
University of Maastricht
It will be a pleasure to welcome you in the
beautiful city of Maastricht to the 64th
Congress of the IIPF. The charm of a compact
old city, superb shopping facilities, an
outstanding gastronomic tradition and the
Burgundian lifestyle of the population all
combine to make Maastricht into a popular
weekend destination. The Dutch Tourist Board
ranked Maastricht as the country’s most
popular destination.
Maastricht has also beautiful surroundings:
a rolling countryside dotted with
magnificent chateaux, wineries, and
bronze-oak woods. A visit to Maastricht can
be combined with a stay in a country side
lodging.
More information on the city of Maastricht
can be found
here.
The theme of the conference is “Demography
and Pensions” and focuses on the
implications and causes of population aging
and childlessness. What are the consequences
of an aging population for economic
development, for the sustainability of
pension and early retirement systems and for
health-care systems? Can immigration and
family policies mitigate some of the
consequences? These and similar questions
will be on the public policy agenda for
years to come.
While the main theme of the conference will
be aging, population policies, pension
systems, and economic development,
contributed papers on any topic within the
field of public economics will also be
considered, as is traditional at IIPF
congresses.
We look forward to seeing you at Maastricht
in August 2008.
